BCYC Fall Sailing Program

Join us for weekly sailing clinics after school on Fridays. Beginner to advanced ability levels are welcome! This program is designed to keep our sailors engaged in the sport during the off-season and prepare for weekend regattas.

All sailors please arrive at or before 3:30 pm.  Classes will convene at 4:00 pm sharp.

Please contact the Junior Sailing Director in advance by phone or email for tardies and absences.

First Half: 9/15, 9/22, 9/29, 10/6

BYE WEEK NO SAILING: 10/13

Second Half: 10/20, 10/27, 11/3, 11

PROGRAM PRICING

Enroll in the Full Program (8 sessions) or Half Program (4 sessions).

Half program sessions may be non-consecutive.

  • 420: $400 Full / $275 Half
  • CFJ: $400 Full / $275 Half
  • Sabot: $350 Full / $225 Half

Meet The Team

Sailing Director: Cameron MacLaren

Cameron has been working with different sailing programs for over ten years as beginner sailing instructor, race coach, head coach, and program director. He grew up on Lido Isle and went through the junior program there, and developed his passion for sailing education through high school and college. In addition to BCYC, he has coached for Lido Isle Yacht Club, Newport Harbor Yacht Club, and Washington Yacht Club. In his second full year as BCYC Junior Sailing Director, he is looking forward to a fun and successful sailing season.

Matt hails from Boston, Massachusetts and started his coaching career at Cape Cod Sea Camps with their learn-to-sail program in 2009. He then founded the sailing team at Emmanuel College where he studied graphic design and communications. Upon graduating he took over the role of head coach for his alma mater. In addition, Matt has coached at Wentworth Institute of Technology Sailing, Boston Latin School Sailing Team, Harvard Sailing Center and the Crimson Sailing Academy. We are very excited and lucky to have him join us as our head coach!

Ashton Brown

Ashton Brown is an incoming Junior at Corona del Mar High School.  He has spent 3 years as part of the CDM Sailing Team as both skipper and crew.  Ashton has also participated in the BCYC sailing program for CFJ and Sabot racing.  Some of his accomplishments include: First place in the Corinthian Cup CFJ class 2014, Outstanding Skipper 2014, and the Mark Gaudio Perpetual Award.  Ashton has been an instructor at BCYC for one year including last summer, fall, and spring programs.

Berkeley Green

Berkeley Green is a lifelong sailor and keelboat racing skipper with over two decades of experience as sailing instructor at UC-Irvine and OCC Sailing.  He served as Program Director from 2005 to 2011 at the Newport Sea Base and was instrumental in developing partner programs, grant funded fleet purchases and online registration systems. Berkeley has competed in many Newport-Ensenada races, Shields Nationals and has sailed 3,500 miles across the Pacific Ocean to French Polynesia as First Mate on a ninety foot ketch.

Mark Gaudio

Mark is one of the most sought-after race coaches in the region, with a particular specialization in the Naples Sabot.  He won Junior Sabot Nationals in his youth, and continues to dominate Senior Sabot Nationals with over fifteen championship titles.  He has been with BCYC since his days as a junior sailor and continues to give back to his home club.

Robert Bents

Robert grew up sailing in Newport Harbor, as a baby, his parents would strap him into his car seat in the cockpit of their Cal 40 sailboat Pegasus and go racing. Beginning as a novice in sabots, and making it to the C1 level before outgrowing them, he moved up to CFJ’s and Lasers for high school. He just graduated from Mater Dei High School where he was a part of the sailing team for all 4 years, serving as captain his senior year. He enjoys sailing his Laser,and fishing the local waters in his free time, and can usually be seen driving his family’s powerboat or his Whaler, and when he’s not doing that he can be found acting as bow man on the Choate 48 Amante. This will be his 2nd year coaching the BCYC summer program, along with coaching at BCYC for the fall of 2015 and the spring of 2016.
