BCYC's anchor, located at the main entrance to our club, was rescued by Tom Berry from the depths of San Diego Harbor. Tom was on a construction project laying cable from San Diego Harbor to Coronado Harbor when divers discovered the anchor from a late 1800s ship. The divers brought it aboard and it was delivered to Tom’s home in Newport Beach, where it was the focal point of his backyard for many years. When he moved, he asked his neighbors, Dick and Carol Wallace, if BCYC would be interested in acquiring this interesting piece of history from our coastal waters.

We immediately said that we wanted it, not knowing how we would move it from his backyard to the club. House Committee members Lyle Eisel, Dale Forester and Dick Wallace, with approval from Commodore Steve Tarantino, devised a plan and the anchor has been in its present location since 2001.
