Over the past few years, BCYC and the Newport Beach Club 420 Team, powered by BCYC(NB4T travel team), have graduated quite a few sailors who have gone on to sail in college. The list of universities is very impressive including, Harvard, Stanford, Yale, Georgetown, Roger Williams and St. Mary’s.

With early decision and early action admission applications recently submitted prior to the Nov. 1 deadline, I can personally tell you that it’s an amazing feeling to get through this process. Sailors will start to receive acceptance letters and will soon announce their commitments to top universities. Get ready to be amazed at the talent pool amongst our junior sailors and the schools this class will attend.

To achieve such high goals, stay focused, open-minded, and keep moving forward no matter what is happening in the world around you. Dedication to your sailing passion, and perseverance, are the keys to meeting your goals.

If you enjoy sailing Lasers, keelboats or the array of double-handed dinghies, including the CFJ, and 420, and you would like to further your sailing skills in college, I encourage you to reach out to Junior Sailing Director Aubrey Mayer and university coaches; and begin touring colleges early in high school.

Always prioritize academics over sailing. With dedication and perseverance, opportunities for attending college and sailing await you.
