This year is going to be a special year for all of us at BCYC as it is a leap year. That means big club events fall on Saturday: Commodore’s Ball Feb. 29, Derby Day on May 2, Fourth of July and Halloween, as well as Opening Day. Mark your calendar NOW for these events.

There will also be special Friday events: Valentine’s Day Signature Dinner, Lounge Nights, Closing Night, Junior Sailing kick-off events, Burger Bash, National Martini Day June 19, New Member parties, Scotch/Cigar Night on Oct. 16, Hanukkah and Christmas.

Then there is Thursday: Prime Rib Night the first Thursday of the month (except in May), Las Commodoras luncheons and the Newport to Ensenada race send-off party April 23.

Sundays are special around the club with Omelet Express, Sunday Night Supper, and BCYC’s famous brunches, for Easter, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. The Annual Meeting on Dec. 6, Santa’s Champagne Brunch Dec. 13, and the boat parade Family Night on Dec. 20 round out Sunday events.

Mondays and Tuesdays the club is closed EXCEPT on Taco Tuesday, from May 12 to Aug. 25.

There are many other events at BCYC, including cruises, angling tournaments, races almost every weekend and meetings to organize all of the above events. If you have a special interest be sure to attend a committee meeting. Most of them are held on Wednesday or Thursday nights – consult the calendar for dates and times.

Throughout the year, you will be asked to consider donating at various fund raisers and events at the club. If you want to contribute to all of them that would be great!  Showboat, The Gala, the Las Commodoras toy drive, Camp Pendleton Marines, Junior Sailing and LLS (Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the club’s charity) hold different events throughout the year. All of them are important and serve a different purpose, so decide what fits for you.

I am excited about what 2020 has to offer. I hope you will try something new this year…I am! Participate in a cruise, help set up an event or attend an event new for you. Let’s leap into 2020 together.

Commodore, Ginny Lombardi
