SAILOR ALERT– the next 635-mile Newport to Bermuda Race is scheduled for June 17, 2022, so you have a lot of time to build up your checking account, purchase a larger boat, find a large crew, and practice sailing overnight. Or, if you prefer to sail closer to home, sail with a few close friends and spend a whole lot less, here are some suggestions:
TACO TUESDAYS– We are already a few weeks into our Taco Tuesday summer evening series, but it’s not too late to register. We award prizes and host a post-race party and raffle every week until Aug. 31. Members without boats…come for dinner and stay for the party!
AROUND THE ISLANDS SERIES– Race around the mid-channel oil islands It’s only 21 miles and you’re back at the club for cocktails and dinner before sunset. The first race is June 19.
PHRF LEUKEMIA CUP– This is a must-sail event for everyone. The goal is not necessarily to win (although it’s always nice to get a trophy), but to help raise funds that support research into cures for Leukemia and Lymphoma. BCYC is a long-time supporter of the Leukemia Cup, so block Aug. 22 on your calendar and start building your fund-raising and racing crew now.
ARGOSY RACE– This is not a mis-print. We are resurrecting the old NOSA Argosy Race from Newport Beach to Long Beach and back with a party at Navy Yacht Club on Saturday night. We’re teaming with American Legion Yacht Club to bring back this “oldie but goodie.” Watch the BCYC Racing website for details.
BOGART RACE– We held off running this race to Avalon and back in the Spring because of COVID-19 protocols, but we are planning to do it in October. This is a race-party-race event that we love to host.
