The BCYC Poker Run to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society was a big hit this year! Fourteen boats ventured out into Newport Harbor to find the designated stops so that the players could pick up a playing card and establish their poker hand, while picking up some innovative libations and munchies. Each boat finished their task, and all returned to the club for dinner, with entertainment provided by Chandra Reese. It was a fabulous evening! In the end, BCYC raised $7,500 for LLS.
Many thank yous need to be made. First of all, a big thanks to Abbott and Cindy Ayloush, Kip and Amy Cyprus, Jacques and Sally Sopkin, John and Janet Wells, and Lido Isle Yacht Club for providing the docks where we stopped. We cannot hold a Poker Run without the generosity of these people, so when you see them, please say thank you. Several volunteers spent hours planning and creating cocktails and coordinating snacks to serve to all who participated. These include Debbie Bodewin and Will Wolfe, Jim and Lynn Brucken, Lev Jacobi, Teri and Director Stuart Leigh, Katie May, John and Kathie McDonald, Staff Commodore Ted and Connie O’Connor, Owen Provence, Ronda Rolnicki, Teri and Alan Schneider, Mel and Eva Waite, and Staff Commodore Don Willet and Leila Lewis. They took the time to plan and serve some outstanding cocktails, including creamy limoncello, blue Hawaiians and strawberry margaritas. Also, thanks to Jacques and Sally Sopkin, Staff Commodore Gary and Mary Tolar, and Frank and Mary Ann Xavier for allowing us to borrow their Duffys.
So now, you might be asking, who won? Amazingly enough, the winner was Commodore Rhonda Tolar with four aces and a king. What a great way to end a really fun event!
