Juver Garcia – Maintenance Supervisor and Mario Nieto – Maintenance Staff

Proper maintenance of our club’s assets is something that many of us take for granted, but we rarely stop to realize what it takes to keep things “ship-shape” at BCYC. We are fortunate to have Juver Garcia, maintenance supervisor, and Mario Nieto, maintenance staff, to maintain our club in Bristol condition!

Juver is celebrating 40 years as a valued member of our BCYC staff. He started as a dishwasher in 1981, promoted to prep cook and accepted the position as maintenance worker in 1988. Until 2002, Juver was the sole maintenance person at the club. It was then, that Mario joined the Maintenance Department. This year, Mario celebrates 19 years as a valued team member! Their caring and dedication to their jobs contributes greatly to our pride and enjoyment of our club.

Juver and Mario are responsible for maintaining our club building (inside and out), the marina and docks, swimming pool and decks, the dry storage area and the parking lot (sweeping, line and arrow painting and signage). Not only are they responsible for maintaining the land-based assets of BCYC, they also maintain all of the club-owned boats, including EmmiBlue Star and the two Duffys, Membership and Membership II. During the pandemic, and going forward, Juver and Mario have and will continue to follow CDC guidelines to not only keep appropriate areas in and around the club clean and sanitized, but also cleaning the club-owned boats between rentals and usage. This provides a safe environment for our members, juniors, kids and guests. In fact, BCYC was one of the only yacht clubs on the bay that was not forced to close due to member or staff testing positive for COVID-19 throughout the past 15 months.

For several years, BCYC has won first place in the “Ring of Lights” Yacht Club Category sponsored by the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce Christmas Holiday

Boat Parade Committee. Juver and Mario enthusiastically take on the task each year, and do a professional job, decorating the club and grounds from stem-to-stern with strings of lights and other festive holiday décor.

In addition, Juver orders all the paper goods for the club and makes trips to West Marine and Ace Hardware to pick up necessary supplies and the propane to keep the outdoor heaters operating.

We are extremely fortunate to have Juver and Mario as part of our BCYC family, with such great dedication to our club and its members! The next time you see them at the club, please let them know how much you appreciate their dedication and caring for our club and for us.
