One of my goals for the Junior Board of Directors this year was to incorporate community service opportunities into our program. Our board will be participating in a bay clean-up. I chose this volunteer opportunity for a few reasons. First, most high schools require a certain amount of volunteer hours to graduate. Cleaning up the bay with friends is a fun way to get those hours. Plus, one gets to be out on the bay. Second, it is a way to give back to our environment. Most members of the junior board sail and are on the bay regularly. Cleaning it up is a good way to give back to something we use all the time. I hope that in future years, the junior commodores will continue this tradition of community service. Not only does it give back, but it also bestows the volunteer with an elated sensation.
