I knew this year would pass quickly, but I still cannot believe it is March! In 2020, the club has already hosted Game Night, Super Bowl Party, Sailing Convention for Women, Las Commodoras fashion show, New Member Open House, a special Valentine’s Day dinner, fishing tournament, the Commodore’s Ball, plus all of the sailboat races! Thank you to the members who made all of the events successful and fun. They volunteer many hours of time making each event special.
Looking to March, the first cruise of the year will be the Desert Land Cruise, always a big success. Junior sailing begins and Las Commodoras will sponsor a tea luncheon featuring the O’Connor family tea service. Rumor has it that Staff Commodore Ted O’Connor polishes the tea set each time before it is used. The month ends with our annual Showboat dinner theater featuring a cast of volunteers who sing, dance, act, as well as the crew who builds sets, sets up lighting, works behind the scenes with costumes, microphones and any emergencies that arise.
Member participation is the key to the success of every event at BCYC. It is one of the easiest ways to meet people and make friends. Participating on a committee and attending events is important. And sometimes, just hanging out at the club can be relaxing and rewarding.
This year, the Commodore’s Ball took a leap with a new format. The pre-party was held at the club, followed by dinner and dancing, ending with an after-party upstairs in the newly renovated library. Thank you to the committee members and staff who made the evening a lovely and memorable night!
I am looking forward to the months ahead. I hope you will join me this leap year at club activities and events. Check the calendar and do not let time pass you by – there is so much to do.
