The last 12 months have gone by quickly for Lauri and me. Some of the highlights are holiday parties, Superbowl, Commodore’s Ball, Showboat (and all those rehearsals), dog show, Easter brunch, Commodore’s Cruise to Italy and Greece, dock parties, new member events, Taco Tuesdays, chili cook-off, July 4th boat parade, lounge nights, Clambake, Tuscany on the Terrace, The Gala, Oktoberfest, all of the cruises (land and sea) and Awards Night. Of course, I can’t forget to mention weekly, monthly and special meetings, Prime Rib Nights, Sunday Night Suppers, Staff Commodore’s breakfasts, the Junior Sailing Program, regattas and awards, the backpack and toy drives, and supporting our beloved Marines at several events.
As you can imagine, it takes a small army to tackle all these activities. Lauri and I are so grateful for all the generous members who give their time, talents and leadership to BCYC. I want to thank all our flag officers, directors, Las Commodoras, committee chairs and specifically, Vice Commodore Ginny Lombardi, Rear Commodore Rhonda Tolar, Secretary Kari Konapelsky, Judge Advocate Tracy Tormey, JSC Jerry Shandera, Treasurer Gary Granbery, Mark Arizmendi, SC Mary Bacon, Port Captain EB Barden, Susan Barden, Lori Curtin, Derek Johansson, Director Stuart and Teri Leigh, Bill Long, SC Ted O’Connor, Linda Ritchie, Director Rolf and Ronda Rolnicki, Power Fleet Captain Paul Secard, Cleve Sproule and Las Commodoras President Carol Wallace. I want to extend my appreciation to all our staff, and specifically, General Manager Scott Jones, Controller Jamie Trinh, Chef Georges Rapicault, Bruce Fottrell and Tasha Michalowski (food and beverage), Bar Manager Shawncy Little, Dale Rivas (accounting), Waterfront manager Debbie Dunne, Juver Garcia and Mario Nieto (maintenance). A huge thank you to our Junior Sailing Director Aubrey Mayer and our coaching staff as well. Our sailing programs are reaching new levels of success, increasing our prominence among the Southern California yacht club community.
Our leadership team has begun working on the 2020 events calendar. Our house is in great shape, both physically and financially. Our membership has gained many new members, so reach out and welcome them into our BCYC family. It has been a great honor to serve as commodore this year and I am very thankful for all your support and friendship!
Commodore, Steve Moffett
